AIR QUALITY
The CLEM7 tunnel is designed to provide the safest driving environment possible for motorists. At nearly 5km long and carrying thousands of vehicles per day, maintaining the quality of air both in and outside the tunnel is an important part of its day-to-day operation.

RiverCity Motorway operates the CLEM7 in accordance with conditions established by the Queensland Co-ordinator General. These conditions are based on standards recommended by the World Health Organisation for the maximum allowable presence of vehicle emissions in the air both in and outside the CLEM7.
Air quality monitors in and outside the CLEM7 constantly measure the presence of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrous oxide (NO*), fine particles and visibility levels.
External air quality in the suburbs adjacent to the tunnel will vary during the year due to seasonal climate variations, daily meteorological conditions and external events such as dust storms, fires and major construction works.
Monitoring of external air in the vicinity of the CLEM7 enables any changes to air quality to be identified. Four (4) air quality monitoring stations have been installed adjacent to the northern and southern ventilation outlets.
The stations have been installed in the following locations:
Northern Ventilation Outlet:
- Royal Brisbane Hospital (northern high level)
- Northey Street, Windsor (northern low level)
Southern Ventilation Outlet:
- Landcentre, Woolloongabba (southern high level)
- Hawthorne Street, Woolloongabba (southern low level).
